Master Time Code System, failure-proof, real time-coupled and genlocked:

The sudden failure of a Time Code generator or a GPS receiver can lead to a disaster. In order to avoid such problems Alpermann+Velte has developed a completely redundant system for all-important time signals.

A redundent Master Time Code System consists of two GPS receivers, two Master time code Generators and the monitoring and switching units. For LTC the monitoring and switching unit is the SL module, for reference signals like GPS the SR module and for VITC the SV module. To built a reduntant power supply it is possible to use two PS modules or to deliver the power with an external 24V= source. NTP and SNMP are available with ethernet modules IE. A parallel operation for two or more IE modules is possible. Now in all cases of a potential device failure, of any one of the units, all signals including GPS time (incl. 10MHz pulse), LTC/ VITC as a master Time Code and the RS485 communications port are still available and functioning properly.



The switchers analyses the serial time information from two GPS recipients and two LTC / VITC Time Codes for errors and non-admissible differences. Status information or warning signals can be displayed on the front LED's or can be outputted via a GPI contact. In all cases of a possible failure, the AS unit automatically switches frame accurately to the other correctly functioning source. Complete status information is transferred by tc_link and is available with the IE module via ethernet or with our inserters like DT, AT and others.







The next grafic shows the modules and the wirering for a redundant LTC Master Time Code Generator System. There are two GPS 10MHz modules, a reference switch, two LTC generators and a LTC switch in use. Additionally there are two power supplies and two ethernet modules plugged in. Two more slots are free for other modules like converter, inserter and ditribution amplifiers. At all are three 1RU frames needed or one 3 RU housing.
