The AV-PCL TS is designed to synchronise the internal clock of PC's running under Windows NT/2000 and XP to a real-time coupled LTC signal. The system consists of an (ISA or a PCI) card and the Windows software "TimeSys".

The card reads Time Code and transfers it into time information with an accuracy of 0,1 ms. Data is made available to the Windows software "TimeSys". This program consists of two parts: The system service TimeSys which ensures the alignment even when the user is not logged in, and the monitoring program, which monitors the functioning of the TimeSys service. TimeSys uses, like Windows, UTC as the time reference, and the difference to local time (time zone). TimeSys synchronises the Windows system clock in the "ms range", that a frame-accurate coupling between the video equipment and the PC is established.

The real-time coupled LTC is generated synchronous to video, e.g. with an Alpermann+Velte Time Code generator G30 TM. The generator is provided with time information from a DCF or GPS receiver. The generator encodes the real-time data in the LTC time, and date, information on the local time zone (central European [summer] time or UTC) and status information on the reception and an impending switch summer/winter time in the LTC user bits.

The synchronisation of the internal PC clock is made by an adjustment algorithm, which serves to accelerate or moderate, respectively the internal time. Larger deviations may be adjusted by rigid setting of the system time, or by readjusting.
