While working together with various TV broadcaster and studios Alpermann+Velte has developed a (MTD) “Multiple Time Display“ system. Through its flexible design, this multi-timer and display system can be easily used in many different types of applications. Even a multiple studio application can be interconnected in part with each other, yet run independently.
A MTD system is compromised of a cen-tral generator, digital displays and/or analog clocks coupled with a timer control unit. The central generator generates a specially encoded LTC signal we call LTC (MTD). In this LTC (MTD) there are 16 different times (or timers) available, such as real-time, other time zone, date and various up or down-counting timers.
The LTC (MTD) has all 16 times in one sig-nal, which are distributed to our digital displays. Locally at any of these digital dis-plays, any one of the 16 available times or timers can be selected for display. The TCU was developed for the input and control of all functions. The TCU “Timer Control Unit” enables the setting of time(s) and timer(s) as well as indication of their status.
TCU is a user console with a numerical LED display, an OLED information display and a backlit keypad:
- The LED display has 15 mm digit height 7- segment LED's in a red colour. It simply displays a time in this format (HH:MM:SS).
- The colour of the OLED display (Organic Light Emitting Diode) is yellow. It displays the status information.
- he keypad has 18 keys and are backlit, 15 keys have an inscription.
- All keys except the numeric keys 0 - 9 can receive a programmable function. The three keys without inscriptions are the special function keys, where the current selected function is indicated directly above on the OLED display.
- Option 2. Display “TCU H1“.
- LTC input for display functions or reference time
- External voltage supply via an external plug or directly from the Rubidium “VL” or “VD” module
- The TCU can either be used in a tabletop format or mounted in a 19“- rack mount with 3RU / 21 HP. The “TCU H1“ housings dimensions are 19“ 1RU.
With our MTD (LTC) signal up to 16 different programmable times or timers are available. Programming of these times is conveyed via a RS485 protocol from a TCU “Timer control unit” to the MTD generator, e.g. rubidium module “GT” or “GL”. At this point the generator encodes this new time (timer) information into the outgoing RS485 and LTC signals.
Internal comparators and other available functions can be used for control of the built in audio beeper, various GPI's and/or for changing the display formats, e.g., the expiration of a stopwatch could entail a buzzing signal, a signal at one of the GPI outputs and also include a flashing reminder indication. Timer start and stop signals can also be received from external sources to any of our two input or output GPI's.
Several studios belonging to a larger complex can use multiple TCU´s connected to only one central generator. By enabling certain access rights to individual TCU´s, it can be guaranteed that the individual studio only has access to change its allocated times or timers.
If software updates are required, the TCU configuration program and applicable software or firmware can be downloaded from our website and then updated via a USB interface.
