faq card not found Abstand Alpermann+Velte

The message was:
One client run the PCLtest program and it says "Card not found" in DOS but in Windows the card appears correctly in the Device Manager.

Usually the reason for this problem is the lack of interrupt ressources. On some machines the BIOS doesn't solve the request of the PCI card to assign an interrupt line. You may try to plug the PCL-PCI card to another PCI slot or disable an unused function of the mainboard. Sometimes, the BIOS setting "PNP OS used" in the PnP configuration has to be disabled.

If you want to implement your own diagnostic code, you should call pclOpen() and check the return code. If it is less than 0, you may convert it to a string, as shown in err2msg() in PclTest.cpp. Additionally you should call pclGetErrorString() to get a more detailed error message. Both information, the pclOpen() return code and the result of pclGetErrorString() are helpful to find the problem, if the PCL-PCI doesn't work as expected.
